What does the Gapyeong Rail Bike course pass?

The course runs along the river over the Gapyeongcheon Stream Iron Bridge and the Bukhangang Iron Bridge and through the Zelkova Tree Tunnel before turning back, according to Korea Tourism Organization.

The 8 km round trip follows old railway tracks beside the Bukhan River. You pedal 4 km out, take a short break at the turning point, then ride 4 km back.

Ride highlights

Korea Tourism Organization lists the Gapyeongcheon Stream Iron Bridge, the Bukhangang Iron Bridge and the Zelkova Tree Tunnel as the route's landmarks, and notes the track featured in the 1997 Korean film The Letter (Visit Korea).

The bikes are electric-assisted, so the motor engages as you pedal and the 4 km legs stay easy even for children (Rail Park intro). Traveller reviews on TripAdvisor confirm the 8 km total with a short break at the turnaround.

How long does it take to ride the Gapyeong Rail Bike?

Plan about 90 minutes for the 8 km round trip, since departures run in 90 minute intervals with a short break at the turning point.

The ride itself is relaxed. The electric assist does most of the work and the pace is set by the session schedule.

Time on the track

Departures are spaced 90 minutes apart and the route is 8 km in total, 4 km each way, with a short break at the turning point (Visit Korea, TripAdvisor). That makes the Gapyeong Rail Bike a short, easy block that fits between morning and afternoon stops in Gapyeong.

Which is better, Gapyeong or Gangchon Rail Bike?

Gapyeong is an 8 km out-and-back ride beside the river, while Gangchon is a 6 km one-way ride that ends with a train leg, so the choice comes down to course shape and location.

Both are operated by Rail Park. Gapyeong sits in Gapyeong itself, close to the Nami Island ferry, while Gangchon starts at Gimyujeong Station near Chuncheon.

Head-to-head comparison

For Gapyeong, the Rail Park lists a 2-seater at KRW 36,000 and a 4-seater at KRW 48,000 for the 8 km round trip, all electric-assisted (Rail Park schedule).

For Gangchon at Gimyujeong, the same operator lists a 2-seater at KRW 40,000 and a 4-seater at KRW 56,000, one-way over 6 km to a mid rest stop, then 2.5 km by the Romance Train with a free shuttle bus back (Rail Park Gimyujeong schedule). A travel guide quotes the Gangchon fare as ₩40,000 (USD28) for a 2-seater and ₩57,000 (USD40) for a 4-seater (Phoenix Trails).

If Nami Island is your main stop, Gapyeong wins on location: the rail bike station and the ferry wharf sit in the same town, a short distance apart.

Tours That Fit

These guided days from Seoul put the rail bike into a full Gapyeong itinerary.

How do I fit the Gapyeong Rail Bike into a Nami Island day?

Ride an early session, then walk to Gapyeong Wharf for the ferry, since the rail bike station and the Nami ferry leave from the same town.

This is the Gapyeong Rail Park's biggest advantage. Gangchon riders need extra transport to reach the island, while Gapyeong riders are already there.

A workable day

Take a morning train from Seoul, ride the 10:00 or 11:30 rail bike session, then walk to Gapyeong Wharf at 1024 Bukhangangbyeon-ro for the ferry to Nami Island. Regular admission with round-trip ferry is KRW 19,000 per adult (Nami Island tickets). Regular ferries run every 10 to 20 minutes from 09:00 to 18:00, and the crossing takes about 5 minutes (Nami Island ferry).

Back in Gapyeong after the island, the rail bike station sits next to the Gapyeong 5-Day Market and Jatgoeul Market, so a market snack closes the day well. For more ideas on timing your visit, see the guide to the best time to visit Nami Island or plan a full Nami Island day trip.
